the palace
Palazzo Rangone is one of the oldest in the city and has stood close to one of the entrance gates to the city since the fifteenth century, on the ancient Passeggiata Estense. The river once flowed here and in the internal courtyard you can still see the mooring rings of the boats and the ancient staircase that led from the canal to the residences. Due to its historical importance, the Palace is under the protection of the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape which regulates even the smallest maintenance and restoration interventions.
The historic family that owned the building sponsored the Society of Jesus which was based in the church of S. Giorgio. For this reason the building communicates in its internal courtyard with the church behind which you can enjoy a splendid view from the apartment windows. It is said that the Count who lived here, exasperated by the ringing of the bells, had the bell tower demolished and then fortunately rebuilt.
